Reinventing Tourism Post - COVID-19: Prospects in Northeast India part-2

Nomoskar! I hope you all are safe and doing good. Welcome to my blog. In my last blog, I shared some concepts/ideas which will help attract tourists to the Northeast post-pandemic. This is the second part where I have listed out a few more ideas for the revival of the tourism industry.

1. Culinary/ Gastronomic tourism: The authentic traditional food in the Northeast is quite different from the rest of the country. Time and again it has attracted chefs from all over the world. World-famous chef Gordon Ramsey was awed during his visit to the Northeast. Culinary tours showcasing traditional ways of cooking like cooking in a hollow bamboo (Bahor sunga), mud pots, banana leaf, etc. will be a new attraction.

2. Handloom and Textiles tourism: Northeast has a unique line of handloom and textiles. Whether it is the Assam silk or the Manipuri Phanek, the Naga shawls, etc. each has its uniqueness and richness. A tour around the weaving villages will be an unforgettable experience.

3. Eco and adventure tourism: As we all know eco-tourism and adventure tourism has been picking up quite well in the past few years. Northeast is a perfect place for such a form of tourism. Branding of such destinations is the way forward. My next blog will talk about destination branding.

4. Model Villages: A lot of you must have visited the famous Chokhi Dhani. A similar concept of building a model village will be something new to the region. Tourists will get to see the traditional ways of living which are fading these days. It will help them a lot to connect to their roots.

5. Traditional and classical games – rediscovering roots: I have always heard about games that my grandparents and my parents played in their stories. Simple games which made them happy and cherish their childhood. For example, egg fight (Koni juj), marble games, etc. With video games and the computer and the mobiles coming in, we hardly have any such memories. Forget about the generation next. Introduction of such games to play in the homestays or resorts will be a way to connect to our elders and revisiting our roots. Sounds fun to me!

So coming to the end of the 2nd part, I hope you all enjoyed reading this piece. Tried to share with you a few concepts that came to my mind through my research.

Happy reading! Lots and lots of love..
